New template that might help

[edit]

Hi! I just created Template:Get cell. It basically allows to get the content of any table cell (A1, B2, C7, etc) and re-use it other cells for subsequent calculations. I figured it could be useful in tables such as the one in this article. Sophivorus (talk) 14:24, 30 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Sovereign Military Hospitaller Order of Saint John of Jerusalem, of Rhodes and of Malta

[edit]

if the order is often considered a sovereign entity, shouldn't it be on this list aswell? 2001:14BA:5E22:A200:743B:7D20:8568:2C69 (talk) 21:38, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It's an unusual entity, and is not usually included in such lists. It doesn't have a population density, which would be an issue here. CMD (talk) 04:04, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It is a sovereign military order. Not a sovereign state. Aminabzz (talk) 18:11, 9 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

France

[edit]

What's happening with the entry for France? It seems to be in the wrong place and it isn't ranked149.62.204.174 (talk) 17:53, 12 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The 'France' between 104 and 105 is a common conception of France, the part which is only in Europe. But France proper includes a lot of overseas land considered integral (to say nothing of the dependencies France has). You can find this version at rank 118. Sri Lanka

[edit]

According to Worldometer the population of Sri Lanka is around 23.17 million, and has a density of 370 people per Km2 (959 people per sq mi) as of January 2025 (Source : https://www.worldometers.info/world-population/sri-lanka-population/#:~:text=The%20population%20density%20in%20Sri,(4%2C193%2C316%20people%20in%202025). According to the world bank, the population density was 358.6 Km2 in 2022. (https://databank.worldbank.org/reports.aspx?source=2&country=LKA) The current density and population for Sri Lanka is outdated. I edited it with Worldometer as the source. Is worldometer a reliable source? Even if the data isn't completely correct, it is much more factual and accurate then the old data, so It should be good. Previously, the density of Sri Lanka from google has been 368. Time to fly buddy (talk) 17:04, 28 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I switched it to the figure given by the UN for 2025. worldometers is a self-published source, which is good for a sanity check but not usually considered reliable. Wizmut (talk) 17:52, 28 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Land area

[edit]

Apparently the most common definition of population density (when talking about humans) is with respect to land area, not total area.[1][2] I plan to update the table soon and use land area. As far as I can see this table has never used this more common criteria. The sources available for this include the UN FAO and the CIA factbook. Wizmut (talk) 18:03, 28 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
